Diversity in Science Carnival is up - Brpader Impacts 2 - Deadline: December 21, 2009

The 4th installment of the Diversity in Science Carnival is up. Please stop by and check out the great post contributions about programs to increase diversity in the halls of academia. Thanks to all of the contributors and please leave your comments. And prepare your contributions for the next carnival - STEM Diversity programs for pre-college students and general audiences. Write a post about local science and engineering programs in your region or that you may have participated in.

Both carnivals are in prepartion for ScienceOnline2010. Anne Jefferson of Highly Allochthonous (ScienceBlogs) will lead a discussion about programs that broaden participation in STEM and how the internet can be used to raise the profile of and build support networks for women and minority scientists and engineers. Hurston/Wright Award for College Writers - Deadline: January 15, 2010

The Hurston/Richard Wright Award™ for College Writers has been established by novelist Marita Golden to honor excellence in fiction writing by students of African descent enrolled full time as an undergraduate or graduate student in any college or university in the United States.

The first place and two finalist will be announced in April for the writers of the best previously unpublished short story or novel excerpt.


Deadline:

Submissions must be received between November 1, 2008 and post marked no later then January 15, 2010. The nominated winner and finalists will be required to provide a verification of college enrollment and a photo. Previous winners are not eligible.

2010 FedEx Climate Corps Fellow -- Deadline: Various



Green your summer




FedEx will be hosting EDF Climate Corps Fellows during the Summer of 2010, to help the company develop economically viable energy efficiency plans. These 10-week long paid internships are a unique hands-on opportunity and resume-builder for analytical and technically-minded students with a passion for the environment.




FedEx encourages candidates from historically black colleges and universities to apply.

AIAA Foundation Graduate Scholarships -- Deadline: January 31, 2010

The Foundation and the Technical Committees of AIAA annually present separate graduate student awards worth $5000 and $10,000. The winners may have an opportunity to present their award-winning research at an AIAA Conference.

The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Foundation, in conjunction with AIAA Technical Committees (TCs), is seeking applications for the AIAA Foundation Graduate Awards. These awards are intended for graduate-level students who indicate, by their approved department research, an interest in any of the areas listed. The purpose of this program is to provide awards to qualified students actively participating in these specific research endeavors as part of their graduate studies. These endeavors include master's or doctoral thesis research and master's (non-thesis option) research projects
